Physiotherapy is a health care profession primarily concerned with the remediation of impairments and disabilities and the promotion of mobility, functional ability, quality of life and movement potential.
The department has been in existence for five years and the total number of patients over the period under review is 207 from an initial number of 136 clients. The department operates on both in-patient and out-patient from Monday-Friday 7.30am-3pm and has two staff; one Staff Nurse and one Physiotherapy Assistant (PT.A).
The duty of the ‘In Charge’ is to consult with staff, plan therapeutic exercises for the patients and prevent dysfunction through functional mobility exercises, protect all confidential information and assist in the training of patients.
There is consultation for Physiotherapy cases, assessment, education and treatment of patients, home visits, and instructions on what exercises the patients can carry out at home.
Rehabilitation therapy for conditions such as joint pain, fractures, bell palsy, lower back pain, strokes, burns, cerebral palsy, head and spinal cord injury, neck pain, peripheral neuropathy, shoulder dislocation and walking disability including posture and gait.
Equipment such as cycling ergometer, stair case, dump bells, nerve stimulation equipments, multipurpose pulley, mobile ball, Zimmer frame, hot pacts and crutches aid in the management of patients.
